The Great Barrier Reef dates back to over 60,000 years ago. It was named by Matthew Flinders the first ever explorer to set foot on the land. The traditional land owners were Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginals. They have formed a whole lot of groups to run different parts of the reef. The Great Barrier Reef is 2,300 kilometres long.
