ECOSYSTEM: The region has two distinct seasons; a winter period of warm temperatures and low rainfall, and a summer period of balmy temperatures and higher rainfall. Winter, or the 'Dry' season, begins in may and ends in October offering sunshine, fresh breezes and low humidity. Summer, the 'Wet' season extends from November to April and refreshes the region with tropical downpours of an afternoon and occasional storms.
BIOTIC FACTORS: Here are some examples of biotic factors in the Great Barrier Reef. Coral is a biotic because it is a main food source for many organisms in the Great Barrier Reef. Sharks are a biotic factor because they are the main predator of almost anything in the Great Barrier Reef and it feeds on almost anything. Fish are a biotic factor because there are so many different kinds of fish in the Great Barrier Reef and they eat coral or other organisms. These are some of the major biotic factors in the Great Barrier Reef.
ABIOTIC FACTORS: Here are some examples off abiotic factors in the Great Barrier Reef. Nutrients are an abiotic factor because they are essential for organisms to survive. Depth is an abiotic factor because it can determine what kinds of organisms are there. Light is an abiotic factor because coral needs light to survive because these are autotrophs. Light also affects how clearly an organism sees its predator or prey and how it does everyday things.
PREDATOR-PREY RELATIONSHIPS: In the Great Barrier Reef there are Predator and Prey. A predator and prey example in the Great Barrier Reef is sharks and fish, where the shark is the predator and the fish are the prey. Also, some preys try to protect themselves such as turtles, who try to stay away from sharks.
PRODUCES, CONSUMERS, DECOMPOSERS: There are many producers, consumers and decomposers in the Great Barrier Reef. One major producer is algae, which produces food, which organisms can eat. Also, there are a lot of fish in the Great Barrier Reef and they are consumers. Fish eat many things such as coral, plants and sometimes smaller fish. Finally there are many decomposers in this area such as bacteria and fungi, these decomposers help break down the dead materials in the surface below the water.
